When you are servicing the vac, with the nozzle in the locked position (standing up), the 034 belt will seem loose. This is normal. Tension is put on it when the idler assemly engages the belt when the nozzle is let down, after steping on the release pedal. Normally an 034 belt can last a couple years. They don't stretch very much like the other belt can. The rear belt is the one that gets worn on these Hoovers.
As for that spring, is it a short, black spring? Most likely it is the one that goes between the power drive unit and the agitator housing. You would need dismantle the top cover of the base in order to put it back. About 75% of these machines that I see are missing the spring, and some are made to be without it. It isn't needed for operation. It is put between the two base parts in order to assist height adjustment. Need help or parts? Email me at arctic@worldlynx.net
