The inner glass of our oven (Lemona HJA 3300) has shattered with a loud bang. The oven was on for only 15min at 180ºC and explosion happened while opening the door. Thousands of glass pieces went all over the food, kitchen floor and myself. Luckily, no one was hurt in this instance, except of few minor scratches. This looks like a serious fault.
I haven't called the customer service just yet, but as it as £25 in 2004, then £75 in 2014, it might be around £140 this time. Happy New Year....

The glass on my 5/6 yr old HJA 3300 shattered a couple of days ago. Pretty scary. Just sourced new glass on eBay. Howdens wanted £75. Going to put heat resistant rubber washers between metal washer and glass.

We were pre-heating out oven for dinner last night and heard a loud bang - as you can guess the inner glass had shattered on the Lamona HJA 3300. Clearly this is a huge problem with the ovens and it is a disgrace Howden's will do nothing about it!

I've been in my rented flat for 4 years, after 3 months the inner glass shattered after I used the grill with the door open, I thought closing the door after use straight away was the problem, since then, I always left the door open ajar after every use for 10 mins so that the glass has time to cool, however 3 years of doing this was fine but the glass has shattered again. I cleaned the glass a few months ago by taking it out so I think I may have screwed the metal washers a bit too tight. If you loosen them slightly, the glass wont fall out but it will provide ample room for the expansion of the glass.

Mine exploded in October, 3 years after kitchen was fitted. Tried Howdens and Lamona to no avail. Never even got a reply to my letter of complaint! Terrible customer service. Basically said it was my fault and they were not prepared to do anything about it! Managed to source a replacement from parts master for £16.00... so better than some am going to try silicone washer theory to!

Interesting so many people have had this problem. My mother in law was cooking for us last night, and the inner glass of the door just exploded into the oven, fortunately she had just removed the dinner and re shut the door. then a few seconds later it blew. I checked the control, in case she had set it up wrongly... no worries there....certainly should be replaced free of charge as there must be a `design/manufacture fault`
This is a danger to your digestive system..!!!!!!
Spent a hour vacuuming and cleaning the oven.
The senior `er indoors was not happy..!!!

My oven has also shattered on Tuesday 29th January. the oven is approximately 2 and a half years old. I saved to have the new kitchen installed. This looks like a fault in the equipment.

Has anyone tried or found a rubber ( or similar material) washer to put behind the metal screw/washer. This would reduce the expansion problem......and may even be the cure?!?

I think we should instantly be provided with replacements free of charge if we're not in a position to buy a brand new cooker, which i'm sure we'd all prefer to be able to do!!!

My HJA 3300 oven was brand new when I moved in to my flat 2 years ago, less than 5 mins after switching the oven off the inner glass panel in the door exploded all over my dinner! It had been on 190 degrees for about 20 mins. Considering how little my oven has been used this is very very poor. I'm now going to have to try to find a replacement.

Yes ours shattered tonight for no apparent reason. Simply used it to heat food to 170C and it exploded with quite a bang. Fortunately no one was in the kitchen at the time but this would have been dangerous if someone opened the door at the time of explosion. Only two years old but you do not expect this to happen no matter how old it is.

Unfortunately I have just become a member of this unfortunate club! The nner glass window of my HJA oven exploded and shattered this evening all over my pizza!! The noise was scary, but I am fortunate that neither myself or my 6 year old daughter were hurt. The mess was unbelievable and I am sure I'll be finding bits of glass around my kitchen floor for months to come! Howdens are going to get a piece of my mind!

Mine did the same thing tonight! The sound scared us even though we were in the living room. Glass everywhere... not good with a 17 month old! Mine exploded all over Sunday dinner, scaring my 4 yr old and gave me quite a shock too! Contacted Howdens in Southgate, even though oven 3 years old, and told them about the complaints on this site. Bought the 'dreaded' LAMONA oven from howdens after being told it was a safe buy! That was back in may 2010 and it has now exploded three times! The latest was this evening whilst cooking my childrens tea! Two lamb legs ruined from past two times and now two fish! My husband was heating up pizza last night when the inside door just exploded shattering glass all over the pizza! was actually dumb struck and just stood there looking at the mess.
Dont know whether I feel happy that so many people have had to same problem but very angry. We had an HJA 3300 already fitted in our kitchen when we moved in. It just exploded last night while heating to only 180. I am pregnant and was about to open the door to put biscuits in! Potentially this is extremely dangerous! No idea how old it is but bound to be out of guarantee. I'll see how far we get reporting it to the manufacturer.

We've had our HJ3650 for approximately 18 months and our inner glass door shattered last night when my wife went to pre-heat the oven. I too have spent most of the morning on the telephone round-about as its out of warranty trying to get a replacement (eventually got one for £65). Called to Howdens in Halifax regarding exploding glass, after a lengthy conversation they finally agreed to replace glass. Annoyed at the fact they refused to admit it was a common fault and tried to impart blame on me. After reading the amount of complaints regarding this fault I'm still not really happy as some people have had replacements only to have it shatter again. In the mean time I'm going to print off all the complaints and send copies to the manufacturer and Howdens to highlight the problem.

Hi yes my inner glass door shattered last Thursday 26 April 2012. I was just bringing the oven up to heat to cook some fish. Suddenly there was a big crash. I couldn't understand it. Thought at first I must have left something glass in the oven. Then I realised the front glass was loose and so assumed there must be an inner door which shattered. Don't want to spend a lot of money fixing it. Without an oven at the moment. I don't know where it came from as the builder put it in when he fitted my kitchen. It was about 18 months old so out of guarantee.

Mine shattered 4 times the last time being on Christmas day with the turkey almost cooked. My electrician pointed out that as there is no seal between the metal washer and glass it is bound to explode. We complained again to Howdens and to give them their due they replaced the door with a sealed unit. Dont put up with it.

Ours has just shattered again, thats two in less than 6 months from new. luckily the door was closed. Nearly choked on the mouthful of food i was eating at the time.

Why does it have to shatter into so many pieces??

I am no glass expert but using metal washers to secure the window is asking for trouble!!!

I am moving out next week, how unlucky is that.

I have found a replacement on Ebay for £13.00.
Howdens are a complete waste of space and have positively guaranteed I will never have anything to do with them again.

Yep I have now joined the club of experiencing shattered glass whilst cooking dinner!!! I think it is absolutely disgraceful, i opened the oven door and the glass fell all over the kitchen floor. I've had one of these ovens for 2 years - the inner glass has shattered twice now, the original just after a year of ownership, conveniently out of the warranty period, the replacement about 9 months later. After reading this thread it's clearly a design fault and Howdens service is equally as bad as they don't care.

Hi all. Just made the call. If you bought the Lamona stuff after September it now has a 2 year manufacturers warranty and the service centre on 0845 006 0006 can help you. This didn't really help me as mine was bought before this so I then phoned the Howdens store that sold the kitchen to us and they have replaced the inner glass for free. Good news! Unless it happens again...

Mine shattered a couple of weeks ago and my partner got glass in his face. Howdens have replaced the glass free of charge, despite it being out of warranty, because I threw a wobbly about my partner being injured. I have the glass but don't know how to fit it :( can someone help? it's the model with 2 screws, but there is a rubber rectangle which i have no idea where it goes!

Mine shattered last night. Not happy 13 mths old. Awaiting a response from Howdens but to be honest after doing some research and seeing the comments posted on here i will most likely give up with Howdens, why would I replace the glass if its only going to last a couple of months? Mine shattered last night. Rang Howdens today and was (rather bluntly) told that it was user error ie; using abrasive cleaning fluids, closing the oven door when one of the shelves is sticking out etc. Load of rubbish. They want £65.67 to replace the glass sheet. After reading this I shall be contacting them tomorrow for their complaints procedure. Oh and my sister in law has the exact same oven and her door "exploded" too!

We are private Landlords and have had to replace shattered inner glass doors on two ovens in the last month (both of which were under two years old).

When we rang Howdens they just said our tenants were using too harsh a cleaner and to just wipe down with a cloth.

This must surely be a safety issue (as will as a cost issue)

Howdens were not unduly concerned when i phoned "Dave" at our Colchester branch - I have reported this important safety problem to Trading Standards with full details. I am going to suggest to them a total recall of the doors
(at Howdens or Lamona's expense) and media publication of this problem.

There must be a fault in this oven, wonder should i report it to trading standards.

I also had the inner glass exploded & shattered on my HJA 3300, frightened the life out of me - and ruined my dinner!! Surely, this is a Health & Safety issue which I intend to take up with the relevant association if my Landlord can't get anywhere with Howdens. Are we all waiting for someone to be badly hurt! before anything is done? I hope any of you above will do the same.

I've just had the second inner panel shatter tonight. Last time I ended up in A&E, whilst trying to clean the glass out I suspected a shard ended up in my eye. Luckily after a check up (+2 & 1/2 hours wait) I was lucky. These ovens are dangerous, don't buy!!!

yep all, same oven 3300 supplied by Howdens Kitchens, and guess what?? We are told that user error is the cause!

After 2 long hours of removing the shattered glass (In my opinion totally unsafe and not fit for purpose) While my two young Daughters could not help but to be attracted to these shinny small objects, which fall to the floor as soon as you open the oven door!! Then continue to fall unless you spend another hour or two making sure the entire area is not a health hazard!!

I contacted the approved supplier (Howdens Kitchens) 2 weeks ago and still await their response requested in writing to several questions. Two of which I list below..

Do you think its exceptable for glass to expolde in an oven of any age which may cause harm to anyone within the area?

Can you confirm if you Do or Do Not continue to supply ovens of this nature?

I'm Still waiting for written confirmation.........

Sounds like a familiar story. Cooker is 18 months old and the glass on the inside of the door has shattered due to no fault of the tenant. Concerned about replacing it if the same thing is going to happen again.

Our oven was fitted 20 months ago but not used until 13 months ago. Our tenents didn't report it the first time but now they tell us it has shattered for the second time. The manufacturer says there is no known problem. I cannot believe that after reading these comments.

Mine did the same thing a few months ago (was out of warranty by a couple of months although the oven had only been fitted and used for 6 months). I called Howdens spare parts and ordered a replacement glass pane which cost me about £60ish which arrived chipped, so they sent another one. In the last half hour the replacement glass has shattered AGAIN. I will call Howdens and demand a FREE replacement for the replacement in the morning. Very annoying. Luckily I had removed my supper and the oven was switched off and was cooling down when it happened... last time it happened there was food still inside cooking.

ours has only been installed 7 months and the inner glass shattered. oven was being used at the time. rang howdens and was told this was due to the protective film on the glass being scratched or chipped which allowed the heat to penetrate the glass, but reading everyone elses feedback it seems a common fault.

The inner glass on our Lamona HJA 3300 door shattered about 1 week ago. The oven was on, but no one was anyway near it. We've only had it 18 months, it came free with a kitchen from Howdens. Sadly out of warranty, and would cost £200 if claimed on household insurance. I would think that there is a safety issue here that might warrant a product recall. What do you think?
