how do you set the therostat on the wall, have tried pressing the + and - buttons to turn it up but it stays on the temperature for 2 seconds with set and then go's back to the old temperature. How do you set it to a new temperature?

It sounds like it's working perfectly.
The original number displayed is the current temperature of the area surrounding it. When you use the + & - buttons, you are altering the 'desired' temperature.
When you leave it alone for a few seconds, it reverts to displaying the current temperature.

User error sounds most likely.
