Brake lights not working?

The side brake lights on my BMW compact (1997) have stopped working. The brake light on the hatch is working OK.

I have checked the bulbs and the filiments appear intact. I have replaced the fuse but the problem is still there.

Any help or suggestions please.

Thank you,
Margaret.

Thank you Vince, I have re-checked the bulbs as suggested but I don't have access to a multimeter so I can't check the holders.

I will buy some new bulbs to see if that helps.

Unfortunately, I feel unable to use my car until I get the problem fixed.

My neighbour once requested my help when the brake lights on her VW Golf refused to work despite her replacing the bulbs. She had indeed replaced the bulbs, the fog light bulbs. So firstly please check that you looking at the correct bulbs. Failing that, obtain a multimeter and check for 12 volts at the bulb holder. It sounds like your switch is working as your 3rd brake light is working.
