how can I fix the pull cord on my craftman self propelled push mower?

how do I fix and replace the pull cord on a craftman push mower. The cord came completely out when trying to start, it is frayed and I cannot seem to find the area to fix it.

Last issue. Make sure you pull the wire off of the spark plug first. That is a safety issue one should always address before undertaking repairs. Good luck.

One more thing. Make sure you feed the new cord through the cover before attaching it on the pulley. Feed it through the cover (where it came out before).

Janice,
This is a relatively simple procedure. In the manual that accompanied your mower, there should be an exploded diagram that will show you where the pull cord mounts. Simply remove the 3-4 screws that retain the cover and the pull rope pulley will be evident. You can buy a replacement pull rope at Sears and just make sure you wind it in the direction as indicated on the instructions. Remount the cover and voila, you're good as new. Hope this helped.
