Gear box oil smalls burnt?

My car has difficulty going into gear when its hot ie in traffic. On inspection the oil smells as if it is burnt. Any ideas? Is there a cooling system for the gear box oil?

Change the gearbox oil, both autos and manuals can greatly benefit from fresh oil.
