Maytag dishwasher model MDB5130AWW won't drain, buzzing sound. How 2 fix?

Dishwasher working fine until last night. When machine went to drain cycle we heard a buzzing sound and then unit 'tripped' off. A circuit breaker was tripped also. Flipped breaker back on and then tried to use the drain function - got same buzz souns and clicked off again. Husband thinks is motor or perhaps some shrimp shells got washed back up into the drain from the disposal (had a party last night & ran a bunch down disposal). What should we check to locate problem? Thank you!

Just to follow up...
I happy to say that my washer problem has been fixed. I just have to call my local Maytag store to tell them that thier service department helps so much in getting it resolved.
I fixed my washer problems by tossing it out with a big bang. I bought a brand new Kenmore. (i know that it's made by Whirlpool who just happens to own Maytag.) At least Sears has never had a problem backing up what they sell !

Goodbye Maytag. I can wait to get rid of my other Maytag appliences in the same fashion!!!
Your Sincerly,

Hi Laura,
I have the same issue that started last year. I found that fooling around witht the dial would eventually get it to drain. It eventually got worse. Maytag came to fix the problem, it took them forever to finally replace the timer. The problem was fixed for about 8 months and now the problem returned.
Without getting to technical here, I found the switches in the timer were damaged from arcing. What I presume and am going to try shortly is to replace the capacitor on the motor. So I would agree with your husband that it's part of the motor. I have an issue with replaceding the timer again ($100) and then the motor ($200) after spending $200 to have the thing fixed the first time. If this idea doesn't work, I'm tossing Maytag to the curb. Keep us posted on how you resolve your problem. I'll do the same.
Regards,
Ralph

sounds like you have something jammed in the pump stopping it working

Thank you JP - I'll try that & hope it works!

Hello,

It sounds like you got something stuck in the pump assembly. I would start by removing the lower spray arm and keep going untill you spot something keeping the motor from turning.
