Water Pump ???

Can anyone please tell me how, or if, you can tell if a water pump is faulty or not without removing it from the car. I am not losing water, yet the temp gauge hits the top spot within 10 minutes. I've had a hose pipe pouring into the top up bottle for approx 20 mins while keeping the revs high thinking it might be an air lock, but this hasnt resolved the problem. It's a 1993 clio 1.4, Please, can anyone help, thanks

if you are seeing circulating water in expansion tank it is unlikely the water pump is faulty

or ,you could take the rad cap off, start the engine, let it heat up,rev the engine, the water level should drop,if it does not, then you either have a faulty therm,or the water pump is faulty,

try the thearmostat, take it off, put into a pan of boiling water, if it opens then its o.k. if it does not open then change it and see if that works, cheaper and easier than doing the water pump. if thearmostat ok then it could be water pump fins have broke, you will have to take it off for a look.

hope it helps, November 2010
