Could remote key not work due to wear and tear?

I have problem with car Corsa confort 51, sometimes the light comes on the remote key and nothing happens, or sometimes it does lock and unlock, have checked key, could it possibly be down to the wear and tear of the key itself the pressing in bit.. does seem rather pressed in.. if you know what I mean.. As its perodic one minute, often it doesnt work, thinking could be the rubber bit on they key ?

Thanks Vaux for your reply.
I tried the card method but the buttons are connected to a chip board and not directly to the battery so as the buttons are not directly flushed against battery didnt make no difference. Have noticed the locking light works via the button, but not the opening. Did ring local vaux dealer and they want GBP 120 - GBP 150 for just one quay.. ouch!

Yes, the fobs do wear. Sometimes if you open them up and put a bit of card on top of the battery before re-assembling it will work better.

If opening the key make sure the immobiliser chip does not fall out!!

You can also get hold of a fob which is in better condition than yours and swap the casing, which is what I did (found one in a car in the scrapyard!).

If you need a complete new remote it will have to be coded to the car using diagnostics. Despite what many ebay sellers will try to tell you, a key which is not coded to your car can not be manually set using the "ignition on and push the button" method.
