My 2 yr. old Craftsman (917.273761) will not move. It starts and runs fine but the auto transmission will not engage (forward or reverse). The rod/lever at the rear of the machine is not dis-engaged and the brake is not locked. There is no sound or smell when the transmission lever is moved through its full range, but neither is there any movement. I rode the mower into the barn two weeks ago and parked it with no sign of problem. Any ideas on what the problem is?

Your mower is newer than mine...but when this happened to me I discovered another lever which put the machine into a very low gear. I had to move that lever to the up position to make the mower move again. Hope this helps but it sounds way too simple doesn't it?
