How do I get power to the spark plug on the 12Hp briggs/stratton?

I have two wires coming from the right upper side of the engine-a red and a white-they are not connected, just hanging. When the engine is in the start mode, I get the wires to spark when I ground them out-more so from the red lead, but no power to the spark plug. This engine is mounted on a work frame.

I think that the red/white wires are for your charging circuit. I have a Wards mower, and I believe that that is what the schematic said. One wire, I forget what color, should have a diode on it. That is the wire that should go to your battery, I think. I think it is the blocking diode that controls the charge on the battery. All this is from memory though, and you might want to get a manual. Sorry I'm not able to be of much help at this time.
