Miele w828 rinse light flashing and wont work?

I have a 5 year old miele w828 that wont work and the rinses light is flashing. I have the miele repair person out to look at it and he says it's the control pannel and replacement part is adout 550AUD plus fitting. His recommendation was go and buy a Bosch for about 700AUD and put the miele in the bin. Is there any more cost effective ways of fixing the control pannel?

For an 18 year old W842 (which is similiar), 'Rinse Light' means the EL200 PCB ( Main Controller Board ) has become faulty , due to either the Motor becoming faulty ( to check , examine the resistance on the Armature(10.5 ohms approx ) / the resistance on the Field coils (6 ohms ) / the resistance on the Tacho Coil (319 ohms) , all these are approx values . If all Ok ,then replace the motor brushes ( £5.99 on ebay) . After ruling out the motor , replace the two shock-absorber struts , attached to the bottom of the drum ( £15 ebay ), which have caused the problem ....... by letting the drum hit the side and back of the washing machine unit whilst in the spin cycle .
Remove the PCB for repair ( approx £30 on ebay) . Note the control knob pulls off , and the hose pulls out of the back of the pcb. A new board scraps the machine at £360 .
Hope this helps someone ........ saved me the £700 for a new machine, and many thanks to others who have posted on the internet re this subject.

Thanks Chris from Exmoor, your information is 100% correct and I have fixed my 15 year old Miele.

For other people outside the UK you can by the part on ebay as Farnell do not ship outside UK.

This advise on the relay and fuse was correct for me.

To open the machine:

Remove the detergent drawer and remove the three torque screws around it.

Remove the three bolts around the door opening.

Release the drain hose at lower left cornerof the machine.

Pull open from lower left corner - opens to the right.

Does anybody have any disassemble instructions for this procedure??

The Miele W828 front loader suffers from "Relay Failure".The PCB that is housed behind the front control panel has a relay (Orange in colour) .This relay is easy to identify.Looking at the pcb with the quick release wiring connectors at the bottom facing you. There is a relay on its own to the top left of the PCB.There is a hole in the pcb about 15mm in diameter to the right of the relay. This relay has two sets of electrical contacts inside and they weld together. This is why your Miele W828 made the huge bang. The bang is the motor pully slamming against the back panel of the machine. You will; also need to change the small cylindrical 6.3amp fuse that is just to the top right hand corner of the quick release wiring connector below the 15mm hole. You can purchase the relay and the fuse from Farnell Electronics. Here are the links (Relay) http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=SW03375(Fuse) http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=FF02106
Hope this helps..Oh by the way you'll need a steady hand & a soldering iron!
Failing that on E Bay put in the following details EL200-D (this is the part number of the PCB) there are a few people who will repair the PCB for you. Cost is usually around £50.00 Cheers

The rinse light flashing means the drum is not turning.
The most common reason is the carbon brushes on the motor are worn out.( did he check these?)
The other reason would be the power module.
It won't be the control panel.
Carbon brushes to fit the motor brush module £50.
Brush module( complete with brushes) £110.
Power module £150.

Get someone to take the brush module off to check the brushes. It can be done from the front of the machine, behind the front panel.
