Locking/closing problem with Peugeot 307 boot?

When I unlock car when iced up, boot pops open and will not close. Cannot lock car, always had to slam boot. 52 reg 1.6 SE

The problem with the micro switch in the boot opening handle staying closed is due to the plastic spring tag breaking. This keeps the supply to the unlatching motor energized. When the boot is closed it latches but then is unlatched by the motor being continually energized.
When the handle is removed the micro switch can be tested and two pieces of sponge 1/4" x1/4" can be pushed in both sides of the lever to act like a return spring to keep the micro switch open, until the handle is lifted.
This micro switch should not be confused with the one in the boot locking mechanism. The problem is not with the locking mechanism that contains the unlatching motor that most of the Forums appear to suggest.
( I was led down this wrong path, resetting the central locking etc, because I did not know there was a micro switch in the handle and I have had the car for 12 years)

Hi,i have just replaced the microswitch in the handle of my 52 307,cost me 26 pounds from my local Peugeot dealer took about 20 mins to swap and put back, and wahey my boot opens and closes.

Just followed all the instructions but still the when the boot is shut it will not catch and stay shut. I manually push the lever across and it catches and locks. Use the key and it unlocks. Any more ideas? Paul

Great answer works like a dream. Just a couple of additions. When you have removed the handle you can basically strip it down completely to clean it . The front cover clips off,the micro switch can be pulled out of it's guides and the finger plate that actuates it will just pull out of it's two retainers. This allows you to completely clean the unit before reassembly.

Mine was exactly the same 307 2003 model just put wd40 in lock and now works like new.

So can anyone let me know where exactly this spring is located
On the handle/switch, is it meant to fit over the microswitch?

same problem, removed lock by removing two fascia scres then the lock itself removed the cover sprayed with WD40 reassembled and voila it works perfect

Hi everyone. I had exactly the same problem with my boot not shuting. Took the handle off and the spring was missing, so the handle wasn't returning after pressing (and so was keeping micro switch pressed in). Had to shut boot really hard (now I know the handle was being forced back by shutting boot hard!). I used an old spring from a pen, cut in half and pushed it in a little next to the micro switch (so it wouldn't fall out) and put handle back together again. Works perfectly now! :))

Solution taken from another forum...

the problem with your boot lock is caused by
1-- the boot release handle lever stuck in
2-- the boot release handle micro switch full of water
the boot is lock is released by the release lever pushing on the micro switch which tells the BSI to unlock the boot catch.the micro switch is in the boot handle, this can be removed by removing the inner tailgate trim then removing the 2 securing nuts on the handle, disconnect the switch wire connector and remove the whole handle.
you can now check if the release lever is stuck,by moving the lever you should be able to hear or feel the micro switch click.
sometimes the little spring tag that returns the lever is broken or cracked causing the lever not to fully return ,causing the problems with the boot not locking,(WD 40 can be used on the lever pivot point to help free it up a bit )if you are happy with the lever operation a new micro switch is required these can be bought from any peugeot dealer

Same problem here! 52 reg 307. Mine doesn't pop open but once opened won't shut. I have had to resort to hearing it for a second with a hair dryer! Obviously need a better solution!
