Tailgate can only be opened by key. solenoid ?

|The tailgate of my 2001 golf will not open by the central locking method. It has to be opened by key in the tailgate lock

It was a broken wire where the electric loom passes from the head lining to the tailgate.

Sounds like a bad ..its a solenoid that pulls and pushes on door lock rod
