how do you check the oil level in the auto transmission gear box.

Engine running 5mm allen plug on underside. This is a tube that over flows when full.

that all depends if the torque converter needs filling, mine took the full 5lts due to the amount of fluid loss, and i watched as the auto transmisson techie changed the seal & filler tube and how much fluid he put in.

Full gearbox only holds 3.5L

you need to run the car to bring oil up to temp, and then jack the car, take the small plug out of the centre of the draining plug, if fluid comes out, then level o.k.
if you are having problems with the gears "slipping" then it might be worth draining all the fluid out, and refill with 5lts of auto trans fluid, start the car, and with the brakes ON, go though all the gears, to allow fluid to settle thoughout the gearbox.
