Need to know the cause of my Fiat Punto Mk1 Headlight failure?

My full and dipped-beam headlights have failed and there is now a full-beam warning light illuminated on the dashboard, even when the ignition is off.
Any idea what the cause is? I have recently replaced by headlight bulbs with more powerful ones.
