The altenator on my 1995 explorer was really easy to replace, I had to do it four times, so i know what im doing. The easist way is to unbolt the altenator while the belt is still around the pully, just let lay there. When you have removed all the bolts, you have to find the belt tensioner which will loosen the belt enough that you can slip it both on and off the altenator. it is a pully below the altenator that is going to be hard to find. But there is a sticker under the hood on my explorer that shows the belt and where the belt tensioner is. Once you find the tensioner get a ratchet with a 7mm on the bolt and push the ratchet down. You wont lossen anything it will just move the pully alowing you to pull the altenator out of the car. This sounds more complicated than it seems, but you might want to find a friend who can show oyu how the belt tension works and where it is. Good luck.
