I had exactly the same problem with my gas fire, chap came to have a look at it and the gas jet was blocked. He removed the glass front, removed the coal effect parts (noting their locations) after that he removed the jet which was completely blocked and then replaced it. Replaced the coal effects. I do need to source a thermocouple as that is well worn.
