Beko 4310 dishwasher won't start?

When i turn it on all i get is the draining sound, but the programme won't begin.
The machine has been unused for about 6 months, not having anywhere to plumb it in. Done that today, but when i put it on a cycle I got a load of foam/bubbles come out of it.
I am assuming there was soap or something in there and it leaked.
Anyway, once that happened the cycle stopped, and hasn't started again.
I have emptied the machine of the bubbles, and rinsed it out thoroughly, but it just continually tries to drain.
What am I missing?
I have tried tipping it up, all directions to over 45 degrees, and re-tried.
Thanks in advance for any tips or triks.

When you connected the waste hose did you connect it under the sink on to a stub?.If you did, did you remove the blanking end cap before connecting the drain hose to it?
