how can i fix my hotpoint Ultima 1400?

I select the programme then press start.It then shows "close door" in the display. The door is closed, but I open and close it again just in case it will work,but to no avail help !!!!!!

Probably the electronic sensor in the door latch is broken and needs to be replaced
