passive light alarm?

My 06 Audi A8 keeps displaying an alarm indicating a fault it the passive head lights the alarm always clears when the engine is re started even after a few secondes the main dealers diagnostic computer point to the factory fitted tow bar electrics but cleaning makes no difference any suggestion's please
