why does the blade on my homelite st185 weed/brush wacker not spin?

The engine runs fine but when I unassembled the blade attachment from the shaft, there seems to be no connection from the inside of the curved shaft to the blade attachment (which looks like a 5/8" or larger nut) any advice appreciated

Either the flexible shaft is sheared into or your clutch is worn out inside the motor housing. Take it to a Dealer, parts are limited since Deere purchased Homelite. Look for a UT# and S/N for parts on order tree.com. It takes special tools to remove the clutch. May be cheaper to purchase a new trimmer. Good luck!
