Hey Mark, you'r a star. Had same problem today, rang whirpool and engineer couldn't come out until 8th January, so tried your remedy, stuffed vent pipe with a towel, and put a small heater infront of the dryer with the door open for 20 mins, and it worked. Many Many thanks :) :)

Hi, I agree with Mark, I have the exact same problem with my whirlpool awz3518 and I was told by a friend who mends washing machines that it needs to be in a warm location for it to start working again. I will never buy a whirlpool again, I've had nothing but problems with my dryer and whirlpool washing machine, both of which are less than 2 years old. Good luck with yours!

Same issue with mine this morning (03 Dec 2010).
I assumed it was related to cold weather we're having here so I disconnected the vent pipe (and stuffed it with a rag to stop the arctic air that was coming in, snow, -10C, unusual weather for Ireland!) and I opened the door of the dryer and slid it near a working radiator. After 10-15 minutes it is now working again.
