Sounds like the flywheel sensor. Its located on top of the gearbox next to the engine block. Its secired to the gearbox with two 10 bolts. There are 2 very small wires going into it that can give problems so try giving them a wiggle while somebody else trys to start the car. If this doesnt work then remove it and clean the tip. Should sort your problem.

i had the aa out for the same problem. with my megane
he checked a few things 1st.
then removed the distributor cap. it was full of water,
he dried, cleaned it, and sprayed it with wd40.

he suggested that i replace it, but to get a match you have to take it to a proper renault place.

i make sure i got the tools to remove, dry and wipe the thing.
since he sorted it its been cool.

Can't remember if this one has an infra red or wireless remote 'plipper' key. If it's an infra red one, you need to start the car within 30 seconds of unlocking the doors with the 'plipper' or the immobiliser kicks in!

Just take the key out, point it at the rear-view mirror (the receiver's up there), lock and unlock the doors with the plipper and you should find the car will then start! I had one for a while and it's a nuisance but you get used to it very quickly!
