Cause of oil leak?

I have just travelled to work to notice a oil trail on ground from my car, on checking dip stick there appears to be no oil.

suggestions please, waiting for a garage to open

If there is a trail of oil must be a bad leak, If garage tops up oil and puts car on a ramp then the leak should be easy to see.
What ever you do do not run the car till it has the correct oil level on the di stick
