My mum's washing machine, a Zanussi Electrolux Essential 1600 won't spin. It will do the wash cycle, and drain the water but it won't spin and just rotates slowly instead. I've taken the filter out and cleaned it although it wasn't particularly bad, and the pump can be seen working through the filter hole. Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? In my case, the problem was due to two red wires becoming detached from a sensor located on one of the larger hose/ducts upper left corner looking in through the rear access panel.

The crimp connector had fallen apart and the two wires were lying on the bottom of the chassis. I re-crimped the connector, plugged if back in and off it went.

I suspect the cause was excessive vibration due to moving the machine to a new house, and not quite getting the levelling correct.

Mines would not spin on it's own either, but once the cycle is finished, i turn the dial to off, then manually turn it back to spin, press start and it spins! Well, for mine it works. Good luck!
