Why is my peugeot 207 (2007) overheating?

Having only 15k on the clock, and bought from robins and day a month ago. I have a STOP message on the dash, the temp gauge light is red, the engine makes a high fan noise when turned on and then switched off. It's overheating but any ideas why this is?

hi overheating , first check that your coolant system IS overheating, a faulty or bad connection on temp sender will trigger temp gauge going right up, STOP Engine Warning light on, and cooling fan coming on. Feel the TOP Radiator Hose it will be HOT, Feel the Bottom Rad hose if it is COLD you have a thermostat problem, You may also find your Air Con has stoped Working, as there is a sensor in the thermostat housing that works your air con. this is what they refer to as a Electronic Thermostat. A New thermostat will set you back $300 in Australia for a genuine Part, search eBay. these type of units are also fitted to British and Euro Cars . Hope this Helps

We had same issue, wife's 2008 1.4 16v started having warm start issues. Then random warning lights started coming up and 'stop engine too hot' along with an over active fan. It was clear however the car was not overheating. After a lot of research all these issues pointed to a faulty coolant temperature sensor. I got a replacement from GSF car parts for £14. It's a Lille bit fiddly to change due to the part being obscured by cables on the top right hand side of the engine. You need to remove a large green circlip and pop it out. The disconnect the terminal. Ours was very corroded and the terminals were wet. I cleaned up the terminals and refitted the new part. Bingo, started first time, idled at the correct speed and all dials went back to normal with no warning lights! Hope this may help others.

would start by checking your coolant level, the thermostat is opening ok,and make sure you have the correct 50/50 mix of a/freeze at this time of year
