why wont my petrol engine start?

within ten minutes of mowing lawn today the mower stopped cutting the grass, just proceeded to flatten it, although the engine was still running. Turned it off and now it wont start again. have refilled oil, cleared the underneath of grass, but still nothing . . . . please give some advice! thanks.

The blade adapter may have broken. It's an aluminum adapter that mounts the blade to the crankshaft. If the pins have sheared on it the blade will not spin, or not spin at full speed.
Modern aluminum engines need the weight of the blade to run. If the blade is not tight the engine will not run, and may kick back when you try to start it.
