Stripped down the Carb, cleaned the jets, checked for splits in the air intake manifold and rubbers, cleaned air intake filters and put together again. Started great and ran good for a few minutes then started to run at very high revs. Throttle is not stuck and the idle is set at lowest. I did however have to use a home made gasket on the inlet manifold (after losing the O ring) made of ptfe tape (its Sunday) I'm sorry OK!

Thanks Adam, I procured an O ring from the heating spares merchant in town today, I noticed that the loctite instant gasket that I bought too, has problems with immersion in petrol so have decided to give that a miss. I will put it all back together again tomorrow and hopefully re analyse the sucesses and failures.

thats exactly what it will do if its sucking in air at the manifold pete !sorry mate you need a proper o ring on it i have got a great big box of them :D
