Door latch mechanism down not allowing door to latch with body of vehicle?

1988 Chevy blazer door mechanism somehow got pushed down, now has a solid bar which won't latch with the body of vehicle. How do you reset this?

with handle/button pressed to open,use screwdriver to flick latch bar open. [there will be a broken spring on latch assy-you may be able to find a spring to fit without having to buy new latch assy]
