how can i fix gunged up valves?

my car is 2004 318ci.I have 1 cylinder not firing because of a valve being blocked. Is there any way of clearing this problem , as this is a seriously expensive job at a garage.

dont know what you mean by being blocked but the seats may be damaged lowering the compression resulting in misfire but afraid it is a head off job
