How can I fix VAILLANT VCW GB 242E inconsistent pilot light?

When you switch the heating/water on the pilot light will come on maybe three or four times then even though the boiler appears to stay on the pilot light no longer comes on

There is NO PILOT LIGHT on a 242
It's a full automatic ignition. Try to re-assess the problem and ask again without mentioning pilot lights.
