I've just been speaking to the mechanic who fixed my car.
Apparently there are TWO thermostats!!
He replaced the cheap one I'd put in but also fitted a new OIL COOLER thermostat, that's why it seemed so expensive, but well worth it.
I've done a quick search and found this

I suggest you replace the oil cooler 'stat first, they cost about £20 apparently.

I fitted two (one from Ebay, one from Halfords), eventually got fed up being nagged about how cold the car was, got a proper thermostat from the dealer parts dept, car now toasty warm within a few miles.
More expensive part but worth it, much better miles per gallon too so probably paying for itself.

Did you fit a proper new Ford thermostat or a cheap motor factor/ebay special?
