as a general rule a solenoid that gives a series of clicks when the button is pressed is an indication of a low battery as it doesnt have enough amperage to hold the two points together inside constantly,if it gives one clcik then the starter motor is either faulty or the live feed to it from the solenoid isnt tight or good or the earth isnt tight or good, check all the leads.

clicking noise battery or starter selenoid.

one click every time you press starter suggests selenoid. Any other would suggest battery, check both.
