My car will not start unless accelerator is depressed?

Hi there,
My Nissan Micra GSX 1990 will not start unless I press the accelerator just after it 'turns over'. If I don't press the accelerator, it just dies after a few seconds and displays low batt/low engine oil signs (both are actually ok). Its drives/runs fine after starting. It's not really an issue for day to day use but it's due for MOT soon and I'd like to know how to make it start properly!

Thanks a lot.

If its a injector motor when you push the acelerator to the floor you are putting the car in a clear flood mode and fuel is turned off until you let your foot off pedal ....then fuel returns
you might have a injector sticking open until you get it started

If the problem only occurs during a cold start, this is not unsual for carbureted engines as opposed to direct injection engines. Once the engine is warmed up, this prbobly does not occur. And when you take it for MOT, this is unlikely to happen as engine should be warm when you drive it in.
Increasing the idling speed of the car might hehp but this is not essential and this may affect the efficency (mpg) of the car slightly.
