Renault Kangoo 1.6 Auto Brake Light Switch?

The brake lights on my wife's Kangoo only come on when a lot of pressure is applied to the brake pedal. I have checked the switch which seems to be ok but it needs the pedal to travel quite a way before the switch works. The switch is properly seated on it's bracket.
Could this be due to brake pad wear? The car was serviced by Renault less than 1000 miles ago and is only used for short trips. There seems to be no means of adjusting the brake switch.
Should I change the switch or the brake pads?
Thanks for your help.

Just had the same problem on my kangoo. I needed to use the car know so can't wait for new parts to be delivered. I removed the switch in 30 seconds by twisting 1/4 turn. Disassembled the switch, cleaned the contacts & reinstalled, brake lights now working fine. Total time taken 5 minutes.

Hi John
I am not an expert but its almost cetainly the pedal switch as pad wear should not effect the light operation.
My brake lights have just gone all together and I will be getting a new switch tomorrow as its 95% certain to be that, as long as no other electrical items have failed which would indicate a fuse problem.
Good Luck
Andy
