Bmw 316, my thermostat is goin up to the red after drivin for short time and there is no heat in the car at all, i have checked coolant, but there may be a leak, would this contribute?

Your coolant pump has failed. The vanes have broken.
Do not start the engine until the pump is renewed.

if the coolant is leaking don't use the car as overheating it can cause some seriously expensive repair bills.Fix the leak and then refill the system and try it
