How do I make my Eureka canister 1784B vacuum start?

My cord got pulled out of the socket and the vacuum stopped working. I replaced the plug that goes into the socket, emptied the bag and it still won't work. I think it might be the end of the cord inside the vacuum cleaner. How do I fix this? Model l784B Eureka Canister.

You will need to open up the canister to verify the problem. There are 2 screws in the front, holding on the hood, and two other screws toward the back, one on either side. They are either phillpis head or Torx T20 screws. The vac. body comes apart by lifting the inside panel off of the lower shell. Most likely, the cord was torn where it goes into the cord reel. The only way to repair it is to replace the cord reel assembly or rig a standard cord into the wiring. New cord reels are no longer available (too old).
