Hi, is this the VS1400 engine that overheated, way back on a previous post? anyway,presume you've discounted a worn camshaft for the noise. Measure the outside diameter of the tappets top & bottom & again 90 degrees to those, if any measurement significantly differs, then that one is out of round or tapering & worn out, also measure the i/s diameter of the corresponding cyl. head bores, you will need a new head if the measurements are outside the specifications.
