how do i replace the inner glass on the oven door?

i have replacement inner glass to install on my lamona hja 3300 ovendoor though struggling to fit it correctly, any ideas?
tom, January 2011
has anyone managed to find away to replace the glass correctly? I moved in to a house 3 weeks ago and on day 2 the interior glass exploded in our oven. We have replacement glass and a gasket now, but for some reason it doesn't seem to fit flush like it should. Can anyone help?

Claire, August 2016
Hubby just text to say the inner glass on our Lamona LAM3301 has just exploded, all over the kitchen including on our dogs. Oven is 2 1/2 years old. Very dangerous. Wish I had known this before I purchased this product.

Our door glass went bang last week. Glass everywhere including in our dinner. Phoned Howdens...commented on the alarming number reported online. Man said he'd never heard of it! Suggested I purchase new one for around £70+vat. Bought one for £16.....decided may as well risk it since it seems it may happen again!!!!

Joan, September 2014
The glass has now smashed for a fourth (!) time in four years on our Lamona HJA 4610. Customer services open at 10 on Sunday. We'll be on the phone to them tomorrow...

Simonv, May 2014
Had the same problem after having Lamona HJA-3300 for 3 years it exploded on Boxing Day...luckily I wasn't cooking on Christmas day otherwise it would have been a disaster. Anyway I have just had to fork out £73 for a replacement as it is out of warranty. Fuming.....

Trevor, January 2014
Does anyone know which way to fix the glass. ie low e? Facing outward or inwards??

Regbosie, July 2013
Hi,

Just trying to instal the replacement glass...

Confused as to which way it should go in. The 'low E' is etched on one side backwards so that you can read it from the other side. Do you use the etched side so that you could read low e from OUTSIDE the oven, or with the etched side outside so that the low E would be egible from the INSIDE of the over???

lol please advise!

Col, February 2013
Same problem here. Glass went bang on 3 yeard old oven after oven switched off. Glass everywhere.

Easy to fit new glass though. Put gasket on door, Put glass on top of gasket with the printing "low e" upwards (so it faces inside the oven when the door is shut). Screw up lightly. Job done.

Add me to the list. I moved into a new home last week and on the day was cooking some supper for the kids. Had the oven on at 180 degrees, checked a couple of times that it was working, etc then bang. My son said "that sounded like it was the oven" so I opened the door and whoosh, glass all over the place including the food on the baking tray. Just what you don't need on the day of moving! My buildings insurance covers it (LV) but having seen this I'm inclined to press for a new oven built by someone else. I was looking for replacement glass and I discovered this by accident. Thanks for your comments.

Also just had inner glass shatter.Same response from Howdens.I contacted Citizens Advice Consumer Dept,And was told to write to Howdens letting them know that thet have an obligation under the 1979 sale of goods act to repair ,replace,or refund, this obligation lasts for up to 6 years for household appliances, etc, Also ,Trading Standards will only investigate sefety issue if item is less than 12 months old.We bought ours in July 2010,but should still get repair under statutory rights.

I have the same oven and my inner glass door shattered as well, I have printed off all the complaints from the other consumers and will take this matter up with my local consumer protection board, there is definately a design fault being two steel washers at each side of the door to hold it in place, which is rediculous because there is no fixing at the lower end to hold it in place, the seal that goes between the door and the glass is also a joke, I had a right job trying to keep it the correct way as I placed the glas on top, it kept on twisting and would not ly correctly in the groove. I think Howdens ovens are a dangerous disaster waiting to happen, I will let you all know what the consumers protection board has to say, as Howdens never took responsibility for the fault at my local depot.

Alistair Mackay, April 2012
This is the worse oven in the world, apart from the glass breaking for the second time it has to be worse one to clean. When you try to remove the door glass flies all over the place and my Sunday roast is ruined. Luckily when I got my replacement glass the first time they sent 2 by mistake but I have just spent 2 hours cleaning the mess up.

Joanne, March 2012
I'm having trouble replacing the glass in the oven. I've experienced the same as the people above. I ordered new glass online and it seems to be too big for the gasket. I'm guessing you place the glass inside the gasket? I'm clueless. Please help!

lisa, February 2012
has anyone reported this a consumer organisation? I would like to add to their complaint.

ali, January 2012
my inner glass has just shattered again
oven first used in march 2010 and the glass shattered in august 2010
due to the nature of the purchase by the builder being earlier than aud 2009 , there was no warranty and i had to pay £53 for a replacement
now 22 dec 2011 it has gone again
i rang howdens locally and they didnt want to help but gave me the phone number of the spares dept again
i contacted then at 0900 hrs on 23/12 and after a little discussion they agreed to send me via fed ex a new glasas
it arrived at 10.30 on 24/12 and is fitted in time for me to cook the turkey
i would say i am impressed with glen dimplex in merseyside getting me the glass so quickly at this time of year
however i am concerned at how the glass has shattered again so quickly from last year

i shall be speaking to howdens again shortly in the new year
surely there is a bad design fault
only good thing is that it shatters when the door is shut otherwise if it happens when a person has just lowered the door , then it could be very dangerous

steve, December 2011
These ovens Lamona HJA3300 are so dangerous I had mine installed as part of a wheelchair accessible kitchen, its just exploded in my face ! My 7yr old daughter had just left the kitchen otherwise these thousands of pieces of glass would have hit her face too !!

Darran, December 2011
Had the same problem contacted the manager at local branch of Howdens - no joy am going to call Howdens head office tomorrow and tell them that under the Sale of Goods Act this oven is not fit for purpose and hopefully they will do something. If not I will take it further.

Lorna, December 2011
Hi.. I am posting this up because I have a Lamona oven from Howdens which was fitted 18 months ago.. tonight the inner glass exploded all over the inside of the oven and the dinner I was cooking. This is pretty awful.. no glass should shatter..it cannot have been tempered properly. I will contact them on Monday.. I hope the oven can be replaced but I do not trust this brand now.

Ellie, November 2011
Same happened to me over the weekend, just opened the oven door and took out the garlic bread and bang the door glass just exploded and shattered all over the place! quite a shock. The lasagne was showered! My oven was the Lemona HJA 3300 supplied by Howdens.

TimW, October 2011
I'm on my second inner glass panel. I bought the lamona oven with my new kitchen in may 2010. It lasted til august this year when it exploded as I was cooking. I got a new glass panel delivered by howden 's at no charge so they must know of a problem as it was out of warranty and I didn't really have to ush hard for it. Tonight the new panel exploded too. Will be ringing them first thing in the morning. Scared me and my son when it went bang. This is a serious safety issue and less importantly I'm sick of not knowing if I'm going to get to actually eat the meals i have cooked!

NOT happy!

Helen, October 2011
Wow - just happened to my Lamona oven too. Kids were impressed though!

KET747, October 2011
Just happended to me......went online to see if any issues with Lamona Ovens. Had the biggest fright of my life, just very luck I was not injured. Very dangerous...something needs to be done before someone is seriously hurt

Mini, October 2011
Happened to me too

Why has there not been a product recall?

If someone is injured this will be the end of Howdens / Lamona in court! They are fully aware of the situation and are acting with complete disregard for safety!

Jason, September 2011
Am phoning Howdens Head Office customer services to complain as this is seriously a safety hazard. My model no is HJA 3650.
The phone number is 01604 764815 and ask for customer services. If we all do this they have to address the issue.

Rich, September 2011
We have had our Lamona oven 18 months and have had two replacement doors due to the galss exploding. The first replacement was free of charge as it was within the guarantee period but I have just had to fork out £68 for the latest. At least I now know about parts-central if it happens again. Surely this should be reported somewhere as a health and safety issue!

Rich, September 2011
The same thing happened to my oven last night - for the second time! The oven is now out of warranty but since the replacement glass panel is only nine months old I will be most unhappy if they don't give me another one free of charge.

Susan, August 2011
happenned to me last night. Oven on at 200C to cook dinner and bang! Too many cases for this to be normal

eric, August 2011
Same thing just happened to me, cooking and pop, glass all in the oven. I was really looking forward to my pork. Will ring Howdens in the morning.

S Smith, August 2011
We had the same problem this weekend, and Howden doesn't want to replace the door since the guarantee expired last month!

Solene, July 2011
same thing happened here...just 2 years old...heated oven up to 200C to cook some naans. Oven had just reached the desired temperature...I went out of the kitchen for something and "BANG"..wondered what the hell had happened..glass allover the place round the in-built (Howden!) "cooker" unit. Not impressed!

Will ring Howden or who-ever they are now tomorrow. Looking at the quoted spares website (http://www.parts-central.co.uk/part_finder.php?b=183&t=51&k=HJA3300) not sure whether or not we had the rounded corners or the right-angled corners on the inner glass..as its in a thousand pieces!!

manorman, July 2011
You can buy the inner glass from www.Parts-Central.co.uk for around £30. This obviously does not address the design fault, there should possibly be 4 screws to hold the glass in place rather than two. If this new glass does not work, then back to Bosch. Howden's wants £65!!!!!

Matt, July 2011
The inner glass exploded as well.... Is anybody following up with Howden's. This is dangerous, and of course, the appliance is just out of warranty.

Matt, July 2011
just had exactly same thing happen to my tenant...glass shattered 3rd july 2011...lamona hj3300...absolute rubbish quality...also had an element go in lamona which is less than 3 months old at another tenants house...jeez is this stuff rubbish or what

cambo, July 2011
Same thing happened with our oven - same model Lamona HJA 3850 supplied by Howdens. I think I will print this out and take it to the manager at Howdens. Has anyone been injured yet?

Paul, June 2011
same thing just happend to me has anyone got any where with the company

dougie, June 2011
Same thing has just happened to me - heard a noise in the kitchen and the oven glass had shattered and it's just out of the year warranty !!

Andrea, June 2011
Any ideas on the original question? How do I get the gasket to fit on the new pane of glass without breaking it?

First the explosion and clearup, then the expense now this pain of a job. Lamona, shamona.

Danny, June 2011
Same problem here. Oven (Lamina)

Greg, May 2011
Have had the same problem with the Lamona/Howden oven. Less than a year old and inner door exploded while cooking dinner. Has anyone had a reply from company ? Have you had to pay for a replacement or have they admitted a problem ?

Dan, May 2011
The same thing has just happened to me and the oven is less than a year old and hardly used.Glass shattered into a million tiny pieces and took ages to clear up.Very dangerous.Must be a faulty batch of doors.

sue, May 2011
the same has just happened to my oven door, i have called the supplier and they said its because i cleaned it!!!!

WENDY, April 2011
The same happened to my Lamona oven yesterday. My three year old was stood about a foot away from the door. We were lucky no one injured. After calling to complain, they came and replaced the part today. Oven less than 6 months old. He could not explain why it happened. This is dangerous.

Heather, March 2011
hi all, I am now on to my second lamona inner glass panel and my oven is 14 months old. What a load of sh*t.

david, March 2011
This happened to me last night as well, glad to hear its not just me its happened to. I put my daughter's dinner in the oven after 5 min there was an almighty bag shock the pair of us up. It was already installed when I moved into my flat 18 months ago. Now just to find somewerei can get some replacement glass any ideas?

Jacqui, March 2011
Serioulsy sounds like Lamona have an issue with their cookers, we moved into our property start of jan, around the start of Feb, i put the oven on to preheat went and did some washing up and then heard an almighty bang, looked in the oven and the inner glass had smashed into lots of lovely little pieces, took 2 weeks to get replacement part though i need to recheck it dont think the guy who installed it did so correctly

Alan, February 2011
Just switched on oven and put in roast went up the stairs and "BANG" inner glass shattered my oven is only 1year and 3months old I have never known this to happen before

Sally, February 2011
This just happened to me last night, I took a roast out of the oven and put it down on the table, then when I went to close the oven door the inner glass just exploded everywhere!! Got such a shock and had felt pieces whipping passed my face! The glass was in a hundreds of tiny pieces but the force had blown glass up over the door and all over the kitchen floor! It was a Lamona oven. I can't believe that I have actually found loads of other people with the same experience with other oven and appliances this was so dangerous! Although it was safety glass it would have seriously damaged my eye so I was really lucky but also extremely shocked to hear that this is not uncommon. And yes it actually just exploded my hand only touched the handle on the outside of the door.

KC, February 2011
Same explosive experience - sounds like bad batch.

On our oven looks like glass held against gasket by 2 dished washers (1 each side) each retained by small screw. Still waiting for replacement glass, but I see no other means of locating it. Guess would be if washers done up too tight, stresses glass, makes it prone to shatter... Too loose and it falls out

David, January 2011
my glass door exploaded it must be a fault

mike, January 2011
That is interesting we have had the same problem the glass just exploded, there must be a fault with them.

Helen, January 2011
What happened to your inner glass? My daughter says hers just 'exploded' after they'd been cooking, taken the food out, closed the door - soon after they heard a 'bang' and that was it! The agents say it's her fault - so was interested to see you had a glass problem too.
