Can the starter motor for a vauxhall zafira break because of dust? ?

Mechanic told me that the starter broke (6mthsold) because of dust caused by the clutch, he said the ice and snow caused the clutch to spead more dust and thats why it broke, can this happen? Also he tried to send the old one back as still under warrenty and they would not accept it as it broke due to dust and not because it had a fault?

Yes, we change lots of them (usual first signs of failing are slow cranking and/or a screech/rattle when the engine starts, caused by the starter gear not retracting fast enough).
Our customers are informed the warranty may be void if they do not replace the clutch and DMF when the starter is fitted.

what a load of rubbish can it eck stop working cos of that take it back an demand new one or refund,

it can get clogged up with debris from dual mass flywheel [if fitted to your vehicle] when it starts to break up,causing it to stop working.but can sometimes be cleaned out to free it off, but a new dual mass flywheel will be needed if this is your problem.
