Can I glue metal handles to wood?

I've just restored an old wooden cabinet. The screw for the handles I've bought are not long enough (plus I don't have a drill). Can I glue the handles to it, and if so, what type of glue should I use?

Thanks for your advice

If you glue the handles they wil eventually detach and possibly damage the wood.
Invest in a cheap drill and buy longer screws.
The right tool for the job!
