If it is a sixteen valve engine then it is possible to be an exhaust gas recirculation valve that has become contaminated with dirt and oil.

as above but also check that the exhaust is not leaking as found on my vectra back box inners came apart inside which also brought light on causing simlar problams to yourself also check ads how to fix astra where reply to that might help

Hello, ref your Vauxhall corsa with an engine management light coming on and staying on. Is it an eight valve or a sixteen valve engine? With out having the Trouble Codes read off at a local Vauxhall dealer it can be tricky to diag. If it is an eight vavle engine it is likely to be something fairly simple like a coolant temp sensor. Note that there are two sensors on this particular type of engine, one is for the temp gauge and one is for the engine management system. The sensor for the temp gauge will have a single wire going to it. the sensor you are looking for will be a block connector found on the inlet manifold on the back of the engine. Be careful if removing as the coolant may be very hot and serious burns may be obtained if the engine is hot. Wait for the engine to cool right down before attempting to remove it. If it is a sixteen valve engine then it is possible to be an exhaust gas recirculation valve that has become contaminated with dirt and oil. This will produce a lack of power from the engine and very poor running. This vavle is found on the n/s of the engine just underneath the inlet manifold. The valve costs around £150:00 i have attempted to clean out and re-use the original valves but to no avail. If you are not technically minded it would be worth paying to have the job done as it is tricky to do and unwanted damage can be incurred. Good luck
