Speedo arm is vibrating and a persistent chuffing sound?

speedo arm is vibrating and there is a persistent chuffing sound when the car reaches 50 mph and the faster you go the faster the sound gets, although when stationary and revs are applied the sound does not happen

you dont say how old your car is,the speedo in older cars where attached to the gear box with a long cable, this rotated in a outer sheath, this some times became worn or dry and gave the fault that you have, newer speedos are electronic.
