Honda Civic P reg - hissing sound when accelerating?
Recently purchased an old Honda Civic P reg which when accelerating emits a hissing sound at about 2000rpm in any gear. The sound increases the harder I accelerate - the fuel economy is also rubbish - last 2 tank fulls gave me 28 and 25 mpg - any ideas apart from sell would be gratefully accepted
A car mechanic friend I went to see simply pushed a metal bar up the exhaust pipe to clear a blockage - car now back to how it was although he recommended replacing the rear box as, in time, it would happen again

would check the air intake system for splits,hoses cracked,leaks etc
