As soon as the till is switched on it makes a loud, high pitched screaming noise that would normally stop once the clear button is pressed - but nothing will stop it apart from switching off the power supply!

Hi. You have probably turned the key to the wrong mode. Try turning the key to each position until it stops. If it stops in a different mode, you must finish what you were last doing in that mode.
