How can I fix the front axle of my 4x4 '96 Dodge ram 1500?

The front left wheel of my 4x4 pick up is joint to the axle by a metal piece in "+" shape (sorry I don't know car parts lenguage)of about 4'' very similar to the one joining the shaft with the crown on the rear transmition, well the front axle is OK and that "+" is OK too, what it broke is the metal piece on the whell that holds the "+"
My question is ,can I fix just the wheel or I need to change the whole front axle?

Hi, I work for a Dodge dealer, and that + is a universal joint.
yes, it can be repaired. you must replace the left axle shaft assembly (the stub shaft and axle shaft are serviced as an assembly).
