Starting problem DAF LF-150 54 plate?

DAF LF-150 has intermittent starting problem. More often than not, will not turn over and catch. Full dash display and electrics and double clicking sound from underneath. Suspect batteries? although both new beginning december. For no reason, lorry will then start when tried again.
Today...no start 0830... mechanic to it 0930...batteries put on boost...starts. Lorry run 25 miles / 30 minutes, turned off for 1 1/2 hours, then starts fine. Same mileage back home. 3 hours later lorry starts to pull 20 yds out of barn. Turned off, decide to move it further out..will not start. Back on charger...try it 3 hours later...nothing. Then it decides to start...ok. Now it will not go again. GRRRRRR! Any ideas??

small wire on starter motor is common on these,it is only a spade connector.pull it off give both the flat terminal and the female end on the wire a scrape with screwdriver and re fit.I normally replace the female connector on the wire as a matter of course.starter motor is drivers side.the wire you want is the thin (2mm) one on the solenoid.5 minute job.if it happens at the roadside reach up and give it a wiggle.

any joy with your LF

meant to say sounds like wiring as extra power in batts is overcoming resistance in the loom..and lf doesn't turn over when in gear

do you mean engine won't turn over ???if so remove small loom on gear box .rev lights ,neutral switch ,and it plugs in to the a plug at the chassis ,,no need to touch tacho ....wires are known to rub through on the conduit ..gives wires a good tug and one or more will probably break ..only 4 wires in loom ...also check neutral switch on top rear of box is working ..may have an intermittant fault ...is starter ok ..also check fuse at rear of battery carrier as it rots ...
