My key fob won't work?

I have a Renault Kangoo, 03 reg.
My key fob is very basic, just locks and unlocks the doors.
Stopped working. Spare key won't work either. Highly unlikely that both batteries have died at the same time.
Any solutions ?

For the cost of a new battery I would replace the battery first and see if remote works.
When weather is cold battery efficiency is at it's lowest.
