zanussi washing machine tripping electrics - why?

I have a very reliable (12 years old) Zanussi washing machine but lately although it initially starts, the electrics are tripped. I have recently had my electrics upgraded with RCD protection. Not sure why this is happening?

The trip indicates an unsafe condition in the machine - a possible (probable) cause is the heating element - and 12 years is a good run for a washing machine.

If you can - run it on a cold wash and see what happens.
